| Walsh Brothers’ impressive history and remarkable body of work affords us the opportunity to provide employees with challenging careers building high-profile projects for world-renowned clients.
Given industry trends within our core institutional markets, we expect to continue to provide our employees with boundless opportunities for growth and promotion, a challenging work environment, and a limitless career path constrained only by their appetite for responsibility.
We are always looking for great people. Hiring talented professionals and providing them with career development and a supportive work environment has been vital to our firm’s success. We value teamwork, integrity, professionalism, honesty, collaboration, resourcefulness, and commitment. Continuing to provide challenging assignments to our employees is key to our continued success.
Walsh Brothers offers a wide range of learning opportunities to assist employees in the development of their professional and personal goals. We created Walsh University to ensure that our training and development programs help our employees reach their highest potential. Training at Walsh University is multi-faceted, so that we can customize the right opportunities and resources to meet the unique needs of each of our employees. Following are several of our training focus areas:
Construction Operations and Procedures:
Course work is available on a number of “hard skills” that are modeled around the construction management disciplines of: Estimating, Scheduling, Project Management, Cost Accounting and Field Operations. Topics may range from Safety and Construction Management Plans to Contract Management and the Shop Drawing Process. These introductory and refresher courses help our employees achieve the skills they need to deliver the highest quality service to our clients, and also help to establish a consistent Walsh Brothers work approach that can be applied to all projects.
Construction Technology:
We are builders at our core and as such we are committed to helping our employees develop an unmatched understanding of construction materials, methods and technologies. Drawing on a unique understanding of today’s most sophisticated techniques and equipment, leading construction specialists are invited to host technical seminars to broaden the skills of our professional staff on topics such as slurry wall construction and up/down construction techniques.
“Lunch and Learn” sessions are popular seminars that are led by Walsh Brothers’ internal experts on a variety of topics. This informal, social setting facilitates interaction between our younger and our more experienced employees, and encourages collaborative discussion and information sharing among peers working on a variety of project sites.
Concurrent with this, we turn our project sites into classrooms. Technical areas of construction such as curtainwall details, deep hole foundations, high-rise steel erection and others, are used as in the field case studies for our employees who may have never been exposed to these elements. In this way we broaden the skill set of our employees and accelerate their learning experience.
Construction Management Best Practices:
To ensure that our employees are at the leading edge of industry best practices, Walsh Brothers frequently retains professional specialists to lead customized seminars. Given the ever-increasing interest in sustainable building, one such seminar being offered is LEED® Accreditation Test Preparation. Sustainable design is an important objective of most of our clients. Our goal is to make all of our employees knowledgeable in these design practices.
Information Technology:
Digital technology has resulted in an ever-expanding view of what is possible within the construction industry. At Walsh University, we invest in IT training to ensure that our employees have the computer skills they need to leverage existing computer software and emerging Building Information Modeling (BIM) programs. Courses cover training on programs such as Timberline® and REVIT™. Our constant attention to the state of the art technology makes our employees more productive and give them the tools to do their jobs well. This creates an atmosphere of professionalism and ensures the self-satisfaction of our employees.
Professional Skills Training:
We provide a number of training opportunities for our employees to round out their construction knowledge with “softer” professional skills. Topics may range from Business Writing to Time Management to Public Speaking and Presentations. First impressions with clients, architects and subcontractors are lasting and hard to change if not done correctly. These soft skill training modules will allow us to continue the Walsh Brothers reputation started over 100 years ago.
Continuing Education Courses:
Walsh Brothers offers financial reimbursement for job relevant continuing education course work. Given the significant number of Walsh Brothers employees that teach night courses at local higher education institutions, Walsh Brothers has also been able to arrange for employees to audit many of these courses at minimal cost. Continuing education is strongly encouraged and is important to the personal growth of our employees.
