How We Work

Eliminating Silos.

Believing that the best building strategies emerge as a result of the genuine interaction among experts, Walsh Brothers prides ourselves on knowing each employee, fostering their individual skillsets and knowing how to bring together all specialty services. Optimizing capabilities, experiences, resources, and knowledge including any essential subcontractors, this transfer and collaborative exchange of knowledge across each expertise delivers the best possible approach for each building project. Each hand-picked team of experts has extensive experience in managing project scope, owners’ goals, budget, site challenges, logistics, and end-user experience.

Building Lean

Lean Construction methodologies are integrated into each project helping us define innovative approaches and solve problems while using effective tools, techniques, and processes. Our teams work continuously to identify ways to minimize waste and maximize value and efficiency throughout the lifecycle of a construction project. Beyond studying materials, equipment and contract documents, we work to inform and influence the design, means and methods. We have learned that the highest value is added by encouraging all stakeholders to work together more collaboratively and to promote innovation, improve productivity, reduce safety hazards and generate cost savings.

BIM + VDC

Our use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Virtual Design Construction (VDC) begins the moment we lay eyes on a project. Utilizing these tools for feasibility, planning, phasing, logistics, and safety is a vigorous effort during preconstruction. We coordinate with our estimating teams to provide detailed cost analysis based on project documents and design models improving budget delivery. Our use of 4D sequencing ensures our planning and schedules are thoroughly developed and tested. Mechanical coordination tools are integrated into our cloud-based management suite, complete with viewers to allow each team access to coordination issues and status at any time. Drilling into details, coordination, and constructability means and methods ensures the final project will be built with predictability and precision.

Sustainable Construction

Staying on the forefront of the industry’s efforts to meet and surpass LEED, Zero-Net Energy, and Passive House standards, Walsh Brothers continues to work with the owner’s environmental goals and the project design teams to integrate architectural and project delivery approaches that will provide innovative, economically reasonable and technically feasible solutions to sustainable construction.

Walsh Brothers’ work in sustainable construction dates back decades and includes LEED Platinum, Gold, and Silver buildings. Our team constructed the first state‐owned designed to Zero-Net Energy building in Massachusetts at North Shore Community College.

Management Tools

Walsh Brothers uses a cloud-based construction management platform, allowing team members access to all current project information from wherever they are or whatever device they are using. Submittals, RFIs, drawings, sketches, observations, and daily photos are all managed online for each project ensuring an accurate and up-to-date exchange of information among the team. Project schedules are developed and managed utilizing P6 with Prime Lean, also available for development of acceleration scenarios or course correction actions.

Safety

Walsh Brothers has been recognized by the Associated General Contractors of America as one of the safest contracting firms in the nation. We have consistently been recognized as one of the safest contractors in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and have been awarded year after year with top honors for our exemplary safety standing.

Risk Management

A fundamental element for all of Walsh Brothers’ projects is the performance of a construction risk analysis. The analysis is updated during project mobilization and at other points in the project as appropriate. Risks are categorized as having the potential to affect the schedule, cost, quality, occupational injury, the public, or end users.
