BOSTON, MA, October 12, 2016 – Walsh Brothers, Incorporated was selected by Worcester Campus Services Corporation (WCS) to renovate its Biotech 4 Building to accommodate UMass Medical School Newborn Screening Laboratories in Worcester, Massachusetts. Walsh Brothers will provide construction management services overseeing the renovation of 20,000 square feet.

Project highlights include:

  • Working within a building with an active outpatient clinic requiring in-depth planning and logistics to ensure minimal disruption and to ensure safety of all personnel and visitors.
  • Coordination with WCS furnished and/or installed materials such as lab casework, fume hoods, signage, tel/data wiring devices and equipment, furniture, security, card access, and lab equipment.
  • MEP coordination of renovated spaces requires enhanced BIM capabilities to identify duct and pipe runs to be removed/re-worked and coordination of new runs.
  • Development of a Fire Prevention Plan detailing existing conditions, construction requirements, and proposed mitigation efforts with regards to fire alarm and fire protection systems and maintenance of existing system for building occupants.
  • Minimization of noise, dust, and debris to limit disruption of owner occupied spaces adjacent to the work areas.
  • Project completion date December 2016.
