AGC of Massachusetts Awards Walsh Brothers with Prestigious Safety Commendation

BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS – June 28, 2011 – The Associated General Contractors (AGC) of Massachusetts recently honored Walsh Brothers, Incorporated with the prestigious 2010 AGC of America Award Certificate of Commendation for an “Excellent Safety Record.” This important award was given in recognition of Walsh Brothers’ ability to maintain an incidence rate 25% below the 2010 national average.

Walsh Brothers has long valued and worked hard to promote the importance of safety and has successfully woven it into the culture of the firm. Walsh Brothers’ commitment to fostering an environment of safety, coupled with their dedication to the advancement of professionalism and education in the field of occupational safety is evidenced by the success of the Walsh Brothers Safety Department. The Safety Department is led by Thomas A. Rich, Past President of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) and the recipient of the esteemed “Safety Professional of the Year” award. Tom noted, “This award is reflective of the exceptional effort put forth by all involved in the Safety Program, this truly is a collaborative initiative and takes constant and continual support by all to ensure we continue to maintain the highest level of safety.” Each project is approached with the same mentality and goal in mind -- a zero incidence rate. This can only be achieved by a 100% team effort to keep safety at the forefront of every decision and every action. This commitment, along with a high level of enthusiasm and professional dedication, has proven Walsh Brothers to be a safety leader within the construction industry. Recently at the 378,000 SF Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital project site staff over 125 workers celebrated with a cookout in honor of reaching the important safety milestone of over three months without injury while maintaining a “ZERO Lost Time” incident rate for the project and getting this landmark project off to a safe start

The AGC, established in 1918, is proud to be both the oldest and largest professional construction trade organization in the United States. The organization boasts representation by over 32,000 firms and is known as the preeminent association in the construction field. The AGC provides a forum in which construction professionals can exchange ideas, improve professional competency, increase the performance of their agencies and companies, and bring important construction related topics to its membership.

A fourth generation-managed, family-owned firm, Walsh Brothers is recognized for its contribution to the advancement of the construction industry along with its community involvement and philanthropy, project innovation, leadership and collaboration and environmental stewardship. Over its 110-year history the firm has had a major impact on Boston’s skyline through its construction of some of the city’s largest and most complex buildings in the arts, cultural, academic and healthcare markets. The firm has had the privilege of working with many of the region’s most prestigious institutions and commercial firms.
